 Term of office:  Two years

Salary/Insurance:  $15,646/year + $1,700 for office + housing/transportation during session.          Insurance coverage is the same as for full-time employees ($30/month payment).

Seats/Districts:  35 districts, each with one State Senator and two State Representatives.  Canyon County contains portions of districts 9 and 11 and all of districts 10, 12 and 13.  A rough district map for Canyon County is at  http://www.sos.idaho.gov/elect/ada_cnyn.pdf ;

Election scheduling:  Primary on 4th Tuesday of May; General on 1^st Tuesday after 1^st Monday in November.  Pre-registration for voters closes on April 30 and Oct. 8; after that date, voters may register and vote at the same time at the Canyon County Elections office (11^th and Chicago) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or at their polling places on Election Day.  For registration and absentee ballot forms and addresses of precinct polling places visit

Filing dates:  Monday, March 8, to Friday, March 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Office of the Secretary of State, Room E 205, State Capitol Building, Boise.  Write-in candidates must file a declaration of intent by May 11(primary) and October 19 (general). 

Filing requirements:  Declaration of candidacy (including name of campaign treasurer) with 50 signatures (or $30). Candidates must be 21 years of age or older and have lived in their district for one year prior to the November election. 

Financial reports:  Idaho Sunshine Law requires that candidates certify the name of their treasurer before accepting any donations or making any expenditures.  Financial reports are filed numerous times through the year.  For forms and a calendar visit
